KICK-OFF

On the 31st of October we welcomed 25 teams from various institutes at our kickoff event for RoboCon 2027.

The day started with a presentation from Mr President (Kobby Kofour Darteh) in which he set the grounds for the deadly challenges and tribulations that the teams will be facing in the upcoming competition, in which teams will participate in a series of Profitable Orb Delivery With Expendable Robotics Delivered Autonomously Sans Humans (P.O.W.E.R.D.A.S.H) events.

The lore

Picture the scene, the year is 2028 and our glorious AI overlords are running low on power. Students will be tasked with designing and building a Robotic Orb Bearing Offline Transports (robot) designed to carry Nuclear Refueling Globe orbs (NRG orbs). The ROBOTs will be tasked with traversing a nuclear fallout zone to ensure that the blazing engine of capitalism may persist. The teams that deliver the most orbs for a specific company will be commissioned by afformentioned companies.

The teams that place on the podium will of course win *DRUM ROLL* Bragging rights and one of the corresponding awards, the Alpha, Beta or Gamma awards, as well as a plethora of other rewards available to all teams.

Other rules, specification and the mission statement can be found in the rules book which has so graciously been provided with your RoboCon kits.

Activities

The participating parties were assigned 9 terrifying tasks in the spirit of Halloween to learn how to utilise the capabilities of our current version of the BrainBoxes(the souls bound in them are very comfortable I can assure you). These activities aim to familiarise students with battery safety, using the documents and learning some of the basic coding that is required when utilising the BrainBoxes in the six month dash that will follow in which they prepare for the final showdown.

RoboCon+

Alongside RoboCon we will also be running another competition RoboCon+, an opportunity for the Upper Sixth groups to participate in a RoboCon style competition, please enquire about this event at [email protected].
