Today we welcomed 15 teams from 10 schools at our kickoff event for RoboCon 2025.

The day started with a presentation from three of our students about this year’s competition ‘Dragon’s Lair’. Read the full backstory about the competition on page 2 of the rulebook!

In this game, the arena is split into 4 territories, each owned by a dragon (a RoboCon robot) with its’ own lair at the back of the territory (a plinth raised 15 cm above the arena floor). Each dragon has its’ own Gem but this gem is in another dragon’s territory. Each dragon needs to get its’ gem back (from another dragon’s territory) to their lair. The dragon’s islands are sparse in food, with sheep being their only food source. You will score points for any cube-shaped sheep (the dragon’s food) you bring back to your territory (or to your lair for extra points).

After the introduction of our exciting new competition, students then got to complete a set of mini challenges. These challenges are a great way to explore the capabilities of our new version 3 BrainBoxes.
We wish this year’s teams the best of luck with their robot building! Don’t forget, we offer plenty of ongoing support available throughout the competition. This is available over email, video calls, in-person visits to your school, or drop-in visits to Hills Road Sixth Form College on a Saturday (pre-arrangement necessary). Email us at [email protected] for any help, support or queries.
